Belize Taxis

Taxis can take visitors all around Belize's cities for a small fee

Driving Force

One of the simplest ways to get around in Belize is by taxis. In addition to being widely available, they are also inexpensive

Each of Belize's cities has its own taxi companies and fare schedules. Still, you'll find a few things remain the same:

  • Taxis are easily identifiable by green plates indicating their status as an official taxi.

  • Remember to negotiate the fare before you get into the taxi.

  • Taxi drivers will often attempt to get your attention if they see you as a tourist.

  • Taxis in Belize never have meters.

City By City

Review a city's fares to know what to expect in each. Outside of cities you'll be charged by the distance you travel, so it especially important to discuss the fare ahead of time.

Belize City

Belize City is the least expensive place to take a taxi with rates of $2.50(USD) between any two places for one person, and $0.50(USD) for each additional person. Taxis are often available at Market Square and Swing Bridge. Cinderella Taxi and Caribbean Taxi are the dominant services here.

Corozal

Here you'll need to call ahead to arrange for a taxi or have your hotel do it for you. You'll most likely use taxis from the Taxi Association.

Dangriga

A cross-town ride in Dangrida from the air strip to downtown should run you approximately $3(USD). You'll probably be riding with Neal's Taxi.

Placencia

Relatively short distances will cost you more here than in other locations. From the city center to the air strip will you'll pay approximately $5(USD), and a one-way ride to or from Maya Beach can run you between $15(USD) and $20(USD).

With this information in mind, travelers should have no trouble at all finding taxi services in Belize's cities.
